B.O.S.S. Academy Offers Vacation Tips for Business Owners
May 28, 2026Small business owners often handle all tasks themselves, which can be a problem when they go on vacation or get sick. The work just stops. Several members of B.O.S.S. Academy’s Phoenix Fridays Leadership hour experienced this reality due to health issues. It took time to get the business back where it was doing well before the health scare. As a result, B.O.S.S. discussed ways business owners can avoid losing money due to health or vacation.
- Automation – Artificial intelligence are two words thrown around a lot these days, but it and other digital tools can help you while you are away or sick. For example, A.I. can answer your phones and take messages that are sent to your phone. You can return the calls that are most important or you can wait until you get back to deal with less important ones. You could ignore completely, the calls that are trying to sell you something. Automation also can make sure you continue providing content on your social media networks. You can prerecord them and schedule them in advance. You also can preschedule e-mail marketing campaigns.
- Virtual assistants – When you hire virtual assistants, you could go on vacation knowing that many of your behind-the-scenes tasks would still get done. You can relax on your vacation because the V.A. will take care of much of the workload you do yourself. Assistants can post social media for you, can answer phones and e-mails for you, or can keep clients happy while you are away. They usually know your business as well as you do and can be the spokesperson while you are not working.
- Delegate – Often, entrepreneurs want to do everything themselves or they have too small a budget to hire others to do the work. This can lead to their downfall. It is important to delegate those tasks that others are able to do, such as accounting. Figure out what you don’t like to do and let someone else do it. Then, when you are on vacation, those tasks will still get done. You won’t come back to a pile of bills waiting to be paid or a pile of work waiting to be done.
- Use Travel Time – Sitting on a plane or in an airport is the perfect time to finish up tasks that do not need Internet connection. These are the tasks people tend to ignore until they have to do them. Make use of that time you can’t connect and do this work. Even if you use your phone and laptop in airplane mode, you could edit documents or work on files on your hard drive. However, many entrepreneurs go too far and work on their vacation. This defeats the purpose of the vacation, which is to rest and recharge your batteries to keep your health at optimal levels. That recharge keeps entrepreneurs from burning out and helps them come up with new solutions to problems.
