May 07, 2026During the Phoenix Fridays Leadership Power Hour meetings, members emphasize the importance of a company’s message for additional sales. Improving your messaging and staying current with it becomes the main point in those discussions. Here are some effective ways to improve your messaging.
- Know Your Audience – Many companies and entrepreneurs fail to figure out who is their target market. They will say, “My product or service can help anyone.” This will not work. Not every person will buy from you. Small business owners can narrow their focus by going through demographics. For example, an application developed for a phone might not appeal to people older than 70. By that same token, younger adults might not be thinking about life insurance.
- Use Storytelling – When you tell stories, you are bringing in an emotional component. People make decisions based on their emotions. If you want people to choose your product or service, pick stories with strong emotional pull. You don’t want to go overboard on emotions, though. Storytelling is an effective tool to let people know more about why you are in business and what your product means for them. This has been an effective tool for decades.
- Use Videos – Videos are a way to build credibility and trust. People like authenticity. Company owners who appear on video look authentic to prospective buyers. You can use short videos that tell a message or long videos that tell a story. There are many types of videos. You want to pick the ones that work with your product or service.
- Keep It Short – You don’t want long explanations about your product or service. You should be able to boil down what you do into one sentence or tag line. Entrepreneurs also should be short in videos, blogs, e-mail subject lines and social media posts. Short lines grab attention. People don’t want to read or watch lengthy dissertations about your work.
- Consistency Matters – Be consistent with colors, logos and imagery. Your message comes through when you are consistent. People will trust you more thoroughly. Consistency will lead to a good reputation and brand recognition.
- Get Reviews, Testimonials – Find out what your buyers are saying about your product or service. Ask them to post a review on Google Business Profile because they will increase brand awareness. Testimonials should be posted on your social media and website. Video testimonials are even better for helping promote your brand.
- Adapt to Change – Technology is always changing. If you don’t adapt your message to the current marketplace, you will be left in the dust. Discover how to use artificial intelligence to promote your product or service or highlight your message effectively.
